Expo stadium makes the Oakland Colosseum look like a brand new 5 billion dollar stadium
The Hamas loving Muslims have been destroying Montreal since October 7th. Baseball has no place in the city anymore (or non Muslims for that matter).
Montreal is Hockey and Soccer, the MLS team draws big crowds, I don’t see baseball doing much in Montreal, it would be indoors and people are indoors enough already with the weather there, if your noticing the huge amounts of empty seats across MLB you’d have to think any expansion is nuts
MLB tolerates the Ray’s (and other teams as well) having no fans at the games, so they can’t complain about past attendance issues. The Expos were like the Canadiens, in that it was something French Canadians could claim as their own. It’s insane the major sports leagues don’t like Montreal based teams.
I am normally a Twins fan, but part Quebecoise by heritage, so the demise of the Expos was a big deal. It felt like a part of that cultural identity had been taken away. Quebec can support a team if you have good ownership, so MLB should make it happen.
On a side note, perhaps Brodie could do a video on why MLS seems to have no interest in putting a team in Michigan, when all the other leagues have teams there.
Montreal fans would need to buy special insurance in case part of Olympic Stadium were to fall on their heads (which is a definite possibility).
Pre-COVID Tampa had a plan in place to play half their home games in Montreal, but during lockdown MLB reversed course and cancelled it. That was the last we’ve heard.
I miss the expos and I’m not even an expos fan. to me baseball won’t be whole until the expos are back. I think it can work there with a baseball friendly stadium it should not require public funds. I think baseball should dissolve the marlins and bring back the expos
Don’t understand going with the ownership line that we need these modern stadiums. They want them, makes their asset worth more. Don’t believe that most fans care, and wonder why media goes along with it?
Brodie those markets are shitty. They sport should go to Montreal Vancouver, Mexico City, New Laredo, Sanyo Domingo , London, Frankfurt and Berlin and Milan
The problem isnt demographics, its economics. Canada is poor. Canada’s richest province, Ontario is now poorer than Mississippi, America’s poorest state. There is no talk of any league expanding into Mississippi. So why Canada? We cant afford an expansion ice cream truck let alone an expansion sports team… Until Canada gets back on track to having some real growth, expansion in Canada is a pipe dream.
The issue comes down to the fact that because of the CBA Canada teams earn money in Canada dollars but have to pay expenses in US dollars. The other issue is local TV contracts. Since Canada TV is controlled by the government teams get not very much in local TV revenue and advertising, According to wonderful AI, Expos one of their last local TV deal was around 9 million before they were bought out by MLB. Unless MLB comes up with a new CBA with local TV revenue sharing they are not going back to Canada.

To me it never made sense how Canada in the last 20 years hasn’t had any serious discussion for expansion in the MLB or NBA for that matter. California has about roughly the same population as Canada and has 4 teams in the NBA and 5 teams (currently) in the MLB, while Canada has 1 nba team and 1 mlb team. They’re terribly underrepresented, and I’m sure due to regional rivalries way less people are interested in the NBA and MLB simply because of the fact both major teams are centered in Toronto. Seems like a major misstep by each league to not consider expansion into Canada again
Unless they get a baseball specific stadium there’s no way Montreal could get a team again. Olympic Stadium just can’t host baseball anymore, it’s decrepit.
