MLB’s Reverse Linsanity Runs

MLB

Bryce Harper, Jamie Moyer, Adam Dunn, and Devin Williams are all great to Hall of Fame tier MLB players. But each of them have had their own stretches in the midst of their prime where they seemingly lost their talent for no reason.

The reverse of a Linsanity Run.

  1. Why am I not surprised Melvin ruined Jaime Moyer(I’m a Giants fan)

  2. I never understood why Yankees fans take such pride in their “bright lights”. like imagine being proud of the fact that your fan base can have the opposite of a home field advantage to players on the home team

  3. You have got to blink once in a while dog

  4. Love the black ops 2 music at the start of the video. One of the best games in the series

    • Hijacked >>>

  5. David Ortiz was really bad in 2009.

    • If I had time to do another segment I think that would’ve been the one. He was high on the shortlist.

  6. Jeff Hoffman this season as a jays fan I’m baffled he sucks so bad even though he’s really only had one good full season

  7. Average fastball velocity Dunn saw per year:
    2007 – 90 MPH
    2008 – 90.6 MPH
    2009 – 91.2 MPH
    2010 – 91.5 MPH
    2011 – 92.4 MPH

It’s a simplistic explanation, but I think the floor of the competition Dunn was facing was raised in 2011 and he simply got blindsided by it. League wide velocity on competitive pitches saw an uptick as a whole that year and Dunn was the kind of player who couldn’t time it up on the fly.

    • I feel like this would be more plausible if he missed serious time then saw mlb pitching harder than when he left. I feel like the gradual change shouldn’t have killed him that bad.

  8. As engaging as this video is (as per usual on this channel, btw), it’s always worth remembering that some things really aren’t quantifiable, even when they affect statistical results. That’s not just good to remember for baseball. That’s a lot of life.
You want to invent a statistical term for this phenomenon? Call it the FBSF. The Freak Bullshit Factor. Run simulations with various degrees in both the positive sense (example from my team’s recent history: the Rally Sausage) and the negative (insert whatever sports curse you prefer here).
I’m sure that statisticians do something like that already, but I like FBSF as the label.

    • At the end of the day, I agree with this. Shit happens. It’s in my channel’s name. I think most of the fun if researching these vids comes while looking for a solution that may or may not exist

  9. The brewers need credit for dumping relievers at the perfect time. Hader and Williams were 2 of the best relievers in the MLB when they were dumped by the Brewers. Then, they tanked. Hader rebounded, but is no where near he used to be. Pretty impressive

    • I think the Brewers just have consistently elite defenses so they tend to get the best out of their arms regardless

  10. It’s been terrible experiencing Mookie’s Reverse-Linsanity run this season.

    • I assume it’s all the preseason illness for him. At least he’s been a very good shortstop this year.

  11. Linsanity run he averaged 5 turnovers a game acting like he was elite

  12. Il Laylapnea play ALSel a

  13. Teoscar Hernandez Teoscar Hernandez Teoscar Hernandez

    • Mariners tax

  14. ur such a typical american tninking you know anythingabout baseball. You people suck at it

  15. Josh Hader also had a reverse linsanity in 2022. 2017-2021: 2.26 ERA, 2022: 5.22 ERA (7.31 w/ Padres), since 2023: 2.50 ERA

    • @@rashiroselin era can be extremely deceptive for relievers, though. He gave up 21 of the 29 runs that year in 5 out of 56 games, or 1.1 innings out of the 50 he threw. In the rest of the 51 games he had an era below 1.5

    • @@goodexecution7694I mean that’s what’s happening with Devin Williams
